June 1, The W Atlanta Perimiter will drop its W sign and be renamed “Atlanta Perimeter Hotel & Suites“. Starwood Hotels, W’s parent company, will remain as the hotel’s managent company.
Atlanta seemed to be a bit W crowded, but after June 1 the (pricier) W Atlanta Buckhead, W Atlanta Downtown and W Atlanta Midtown remain for the W following crowd. Only New York also has three W Hotels (down from 5 last year), while Chicago and New Orleans have two.
The W Atlanta Perimeter was the first W Hotel in Atlanta. Prior to becoming a W it used to be a Sheraton Hotel. With management still by Starwood, members of its loyalty program will still receive points on the program and according to Starwood “all reservations will be honored”. The hotel has been getting some mixed reviews on Tripadvisor lately. Taking the sign down maybe has to do something with this. Also, Atlanta hotels have been hit hard by the recession taking toll on many of the (luxury) establishments in town, like Marriott’s Renaissance Hotel which was forced to close down. W Atlanta Perimeter is offering rooms from € 93 (US$ 132).
