old town
You might be prepared for a new hotel venture from a famed nightclub group to rather emphasize nightlife at the expense of old-fashioned hospitality and in-room luxury and comfort. Prepare to be enlightened. The first of what’s intended to be a series of Buddha Bar hotels has opened in Prague, not far from the Charles Bridge and everything that’s historic in the old town. What’s surprising is that inside you’ll find not just the next installment of the Buddha Bar nightlife franchise, but thirty-nine very stylish and exceedingly luxe rooms and suites as well.
The décor is the expected mod-Orientalism of the Buddha Bar concept, certainly a departure for Prague, and the rooms have some substance beneath that style — massive tubs, occasional jacuzzis, rain showers, and a few classic luxury-hotel touches, such as a complimentary shoeshine service and the increasingly rare bit of chocolate on the pillow at turndown. A small gym and spa balance the decadent nightlife with a bit of daytime rejuvenation, and the Siddhartha Café serves an eclectic international cuisine at more or less all hours, to suit the eccentric schedules of the Buddha Bar’s globe-trotting, nightclubbing clientele. This is one of those cases where the execution almost transcends the concept — one can even imagine greatly enjoying the Buddha-Bar Hotel without ever setting foot in the Buddha Bar itself.

I have stayed at many hotels but I come close to the point of this hotel being one of my favourite stays ever. In all, it is an excellent hotel. The Buddha-Bar Hotel Prague feels very private almost like staying at a friend's. A friend with a lot of money though.... At the same time it has all the mod cons of a five star hotel. Rooms are extremely large (they start at 35m2) and comfortable. Very high gadget, like 5 speakers in the ceiling (Buddha-Bar cd's!), everything electronically controlled, a tv in the bathroom mirror and one of those Japanese 'shower' toilets giving you -well- a very refreshed feeling. Bathrooms are spectacular with a big free standing tub and a seperate rain shower. Toiletries are fabulous. I can go on and on: pillow menu, turn-down service, etc, etc. 5 star works. I had dinner in the Siddartha Cafe and breakfast there in the morning. Excellent! So was the massage, which you can have in-room. Staff is young, very friendly and eager to please. Hard to find these days! Stylewise it is opposite to the sleek, minimalist kind of places you find around the globe. If you are familiar with the famous Buddha-Bar in Paris you know what to expect: an opulent 'Eastern' colonial style with a mysterious atmosphere. Very relaxing, almost did not want to leave the hotel. Which is a shame really, as the Buddha-Bar Hotel is right in the heart of Old Town Prague with most sights literally at the doorstep. Highly recommended hotel!
