Goldman 25hours Description

As they expand across Germany, one thing the 25hours group can’t be accused of doing is repeating themselves. The Hamburg version looks like it’s from space, and the other Frankfurt outpost is a partnership with Levi’s, and is decorated accordingly. This one, in Frankfurt’s east end, was created by a local nightclub impresario (whose name, it’s no coincidence, is Goldman) and boasts, among its themes, a different color scheme for each of its seven floors.

We could go on and on trying to sum up the design, and that’s what the pictures are for anyway. Suffice it to say that the rooms all contain references to various notable Frankfurters, and they’re all bold and fun, never too pretentious and never ever minimalist.

They’re not overly luxurious either, which is the point. As one of Europe’s great financial centers, Frankfurt hardly lacks for luxury hotels — what it tends to lack (along with most other cities, come to think of it) is something that’s stylish and at the same time affordable. That’s 25hours in a nutshell. High-flying finance types might find the décor a bit much, but they’ve got their own hotels — the Goldman 25hours starts somewhere south of the magic 100-euro mark, making it friendly for travelers without expense accounts.

Spend a hot sunday night in this quirky hotel. With no airco and a fan not working, sleeping with the windows open on this busy street a good night's rest was not going to be. However, the cheerful receptionist brought a working fan up in just a minute, problem solved. Maybe it was the theme of the room I was staying translated "little luck"? For the rest this was a hassle free stay and the hotel has a relaxed vibe about it. Definitely not for lovers of minimal design. Rooms are themed around a colour (every floor has another colour) and a local. Sadly the book with all 49 stories is in German only, too bad as it shows there's more to Frankfurt then banks and insurance. Restaurant was not open during my stay, but I was suprised to find a menu from the Italian restaurant/pizzeria opposite the hotel delivering, with some realistic pricing. The hotel itself is definitely value-for-money. Free WiFi, free SkyTV including sports and sex channels, though the Beate Uhse channel is more comedy then arousing :-) The area is what they say "up and coming", a mix of car dealers, supermarkets, flashy offices, trendy restaurants and local bars (including some wurst accross the street) and the occasional "lofts with riverviews for sale" billboards. The new European Central Bank headquarters is built within a five minute walk, which will help push up gentrification. And should you require airconditioning and sleek interiors, the Motel One is just opposite.
