Just as designers the world over test their avant garde concepts on the runways of Milan, so does the Boscolo Exedra Milan, a near surrealist modern art hotel in the city's fashion district. Once a 1920s bank, Boscolo Exedra Milan has traded beige suits for gleaming white walls and scads of vibrant modern art. This is Milan after all, and if residents can drape themselves in personal expressions of color and pattern, why can't a hotel do the same? It goes without saying that drinking and eating are an unavoidable piece of Milan's culture, and Boscolo Exedra Milan offers a new interpretation. The artful Lounge Bar and Champagnerie are adorned with various iterations of globe-like lights; some chrome, some a satin black. White walls and fluid-looking chrome bars frame the entire show, creating a carnival-meets-fashion-show vibe. Darker colors prevail at Fish restaurant, serving Mediterranean fare in a starship-like setting. 154 rooms and nine thematic suites sport low-lying beds and playfully shaped furnishings, but the most extreme execution of the hotel's aesthetic is the spa, with its hundreds of fish-eye mirrors, and organic, twisting roofline.
