Perched above Lake Zurich against a scenic backdrop of rolling wooded hills, the Dolder Grand is both a historic landmark and a testament to contemporary architecture. The luxury hotel boasts 173 rooms, two Michelin stars restaurant with spectacular views and a 4,000 sq meter spa.
While the Dolder Grand’s proximity to Zurich offers guests all the excitement of a cosmopolitan city, its pristine setting in Switzerland’s beautiful nature provides a serene retreat from urban life. In 2004, Dolder Grand owner Urs E. Schwarzenbach and Managing Director Thomas Schmid sought out world-renowned architect Lord Norman Foster to helm the historic hotel’s structural renovations.
Foster added two modern wings with sweeping glass facades to either side of the hotel’s 19th century main building with traditional wooden framework, chiselled awnings and fairy tale steeples. Each room is outfitted with a sophisticated balance of classic European elegance and innovative modern design. Ambient lighting and plush fabrics in subdued lilac create a mellow ambience, while flourishes of regal patterns in dramatic hues like crimson and ochre offer an aristocratic feel. By embracing its historic origins, the Dolder Grand’s updated style pays homage to the past while epitomizing modern luxury.
Nestled against Zurich’s surrounding forests, and in the vicinity of the bustling city, the Dolder Grand’s renovations by world-renowned architect Lord Norman Foster have made the historic landmark into a modern masterpiece.
